"There's nothing passive about viewing Rainey's people. They call you in and invite you to play........Entertaining, delightful.....We encourage her to do more of them!" This was the judge's statement at my first award ceremony. The words are very dear to me. More than the award itself - which was such inspiration! - they told me I had touched people with my work. What joy!
Winnie died in September. I got her when she was ten weeks old and was with her practically every day till the end at age 13. It was a joy to love her.
Probably everyone who has had a dog learns this lesson.... the depth of the connection we share is profound. I miss everything about her...her snoring, her velvet ears, her begging for snacks, her fighting for her unfair share of the bed (actually all of the bed was the requirement!), her funny relationship to puddles, the way she'd find me at the end even when she couldn't hear and hardly see, and was struggling to walk. Yet somehow, whenever I opened the refrigerator door to get myself a snack, she could instantly teleport from any room in the house to immediately behind me. The last year, I worked from home so we could be together. Even now, I wish I'd had a few more weeks of carrying her out for walks.
I'm seeing lots of tears - mine and others - as I share the paintings. We have such gratitude that the memories remain rich and others "get it". Somehow, best friend still falls a little short.......
Painting is dancing - complete with rhythm, mood, key, color, movement and continuous flow.
Colors are lush, layers are mysterious, the textures are inviting. These paintings show imagination and the power and sheer fun of painting. The longer you look at them, the more you experience what it was like to paint them.
I paint till I’ve created something I’ve never seen, but would like to. I paint till the painting lives on it’s own, and I’m standing there wondering who lives in the village, or what happens around that corner, or what the weather was outside that window. I stop painting when there’s enough content to intrigue and tease, and not all the questions are answered. I stop painting when the flow stops and start again when the painting and I are ready for another round. Never let a work of art show more work than art.
